Kelsey’s childhood was filled with pain, trauma and thoughts of suicide caused by physical, emotional, and religious abuse. When she became a teen, she participated in various forms of mental health treatment programs at residential treatment centers, several hospitals, and mental health clinics. Without progress, at 18 years old, Kelsey found herself leaving a hospital and entering adulthood feeling hopeless.
In that moment, someone at that hospital suggested she contact Christian Family Solutions (CFS) as a treatment option.
“I didn’t want to go. Absolutely not. I was convinced that I didn’t want to sit around the Bible and pray it away.”
That first phone conversation with CFS staff alleviated Kelsey’s initial concerns and led her to enroll in a CFS Adult Intensive Outpatient Program. When she began treatment, she recalls feeling like a failure because she was kicked out of other treatment programs. She was surprised by the care and compassion she received from the CFS staff.
“I came into CFS and they repeatedly said to me, ‘Why would we kick you out when this is where you need to be, when you need help?’” Kelsey recalls. “My team worked endlessly just to get me to stay alive. They said, ‘We need you to have a reason to get out of bed in the morning.’”
Kelsey required a more intensive level of counseling care than can be provided in a traditional outpatient counseling setting. Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs) provide this higher level of care through daily individual and group therapy sessions so that clients are able to maintain their regular activities in their community.
Many clients like Kelsey choose to explore their faith as part of treatment. Christian Family Solutions has the ability to integrate Christian faith principles with evidence-based modalities. This combination of quality mental health treatment integrated with an individual’s faith yields excellent, longer-lasting outcomes.
The story of a life saved.
Kelsey is one soul brought to Christ out of the depth of self-destruction. Kelsey arrived at CFS when she was at the end of her rope, doing everything possible to ruin her life. Yet God had a better plan, and we are grateful. Today by the grace of God, Kelsey attends college and is pursuing a teaching career.
Kelsey has found her reason to get out of bed in the morning.
