Children of Trauma and Resilience

Length: 6 hours (may be broken down into two 3-hour sessions or three 2-hour sessions)
Intended Audience: Anyone who works with children, adolescents, families, or communities
Cost: $1,500 MAP Members / $2,100 non-MAP Members
Description: This course introduces participants to a trauma-informed and resilience-focused mindset and teaches participants about toxic stress and trauma, how to help process those experiences and how to foster and nurture characteristics of resilience. It begins with a strong focus on resilience and includes an exploration of how core values and beliefs direct the way professionals work with children. The four universal needs of all human beings as explained by the Circle of Courage® model including belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity are explained and discussed. Participants learn about the experience of trauma as one that impacts a person’s body and shown a demonstration of trauma’s impact on the brain. Participants learn the importance of sensory-based interventions and how to assess a child’s private logic and universal needs. Finally, participants practice the development of trauma-informed and resilience-focused support plans for youth.
Note: This training is best delivered in person. A guidebook will need to be purchased for each participant. The cost for these as of August 2022 is $25 per digital guidebook or $35 per printed guidebook. At least three weeks’ notice is required to order these.
Structured Sensory Interventions II
Presented by: Jane Mose, MA, Family Peer Specialist
Length: 6 hours (may be broken down into two 3-hour sessions or three 2-hour sessions)
Intended Audience: Clinical professionals who work in agency or other non-educational settings
Cost: $1,500 MAP Members / $2,100 non-MAP Members
Description: This course takes participants deeper into the brain science of trauma and toxic stress. The polyvagal theory, epigenetics and the science of resilience is explored. The content emphasizes the importance of hope when working with at-risk and traumatized youth. Participants learn about the SITCAP® model (Structured Sensory Interventions for Traumatized Children, Adolescents and Parents) and practice sensory based interventions from a variety of SITCAP® model programs including Healing the Experience of Trauma: A Path to Resilience. Experiential activities and the presentation of case examples showcase how to process trauma, nurture and restore resilience in youth of all ages.

TBRI® Caregiver Training: Connecting Principles
Presented by: Jane Mose, MA, Family Peer Specialist
Length: 6 hours (may be broken down into two 3-hour sessions or three 2-hour sessions)
Intended Audience: Caregivers of vulnerable children, particularly those who have experienced trauma, including children who were adopted or in foster care
Cost: $1,500 MAP Members / $2,100 non-MAP Members
Description: This course focuses on the Connecting Principles of Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI®). TBRI® is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. TBRI® uses Empowering Principles to address physical needs, Connecting Principles for attachment needs, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviors. While the intervention is based on years of attachment, sensory processing, and neuroscience research, the heartbeat of TBRI® is connection.
Note: If this training is presented to a group that does not work with a child or children who are clients of CFS, advance permission will need to be obtained from the Karen Purvis Institute of Child Development.
TBRI® Caregiver Training: Correcting Principles

Length: 6 hours (may be broken down into two 3-hour sessions or three 2-hour sessions)
Intended Audience: Caregivers of vulnerable children, particularly those who have experienced trauma, including children who were adopted or in foster care
Cost: $1,500 MAP Members / $2,100 non-MAP Members
Description: This course focuses on the Correcting Principles of Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI®).TBRI® is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. TBRI® uses Empowering Principles to address physical needs, Connecting Principles for attachment needs, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviors. Correcting the behaviors of vulnerable children can be challenging, as traditional methods of discipline may increase fear and trigger further behavioral challenges. This course shows how to correct behaviors while still providing felt safety to the child.

TBRI® Caregiver Training: Empowering Principles

Intended Audience: Caregivers of vulnerable children, particularly those who have experienced trauma, including children who were adopted or in foster care

Description: This course focuses on the Empowering Principles of Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI®). TBRI® is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. TBRI® uses Empowering Principles to address physical needs, Connecting Principles for attachment needs, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviors. Learning the many ways it is important to meet the child’s physical needs is fundamental in order to later implement the Connecting and Correcting Principles.
