“Thank you for bringing my daughter back to me, and back to church with me.”
Pastor James Mattek served as Director of Ministry at Christian Family Solutions for 20 years. During that time, many of his weekends were spent guest preaching and leading Bible studies at congregations across the country. He had the opportunity to share the healing power of the Gospel and shed light on many troubling mental health challenges. Among the many memories from his ministry, this story is a moment that stands out for Pastor Mattek.
What started out as a typical Sunday morning worship service turned out to be something quite extraordinary. Pastor Mattek was guest-preaching at a church that was not his own, and as he looked out into the rows of unfamiliar faces, he noticed a rainbow.
Not the typical “arch-in-the-sky” rainbow; rather a head of rainbow-colored hair.
What was almost more eye-catching was the joy that appeared to be radiating from the woman sitting next to the colorful-haired girl.
As Pastor Mattek was greeting members after the service, he was approached by the woman. With tears in her eyes, she grabbed his hand and said, “You don’t know me, and you don’t know my daughter. But I wanted to thank you and your counselors at Christian Family Solutions. Without the help of her counselor, she would not be here. Thank you for bringing my daughter back to me, and back to church with me.”
It’s moments like this that we are reminded of the tangible blessings that come from the work being done at Christian Family Solutions. With the help of clinically trained counselors combined with the healing power of the Gospel, those who seek treatment at Christian Family Solutions will see results. These results often expand beyond that of mental and emotional health for a peace-filled, healthier life – emotionally, spiritually, and relationship-wise.
God once used a rainbow as the symbol of a promise (Genesis 9). The girl with rainbow-colored hair was for Pastor Mattek a symbol of God’s additional promises:
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my
righteous right hand (Isaiah 41:10).
God works through people to help us and strengthen us, to provide for our every need. This girl’s time with counselors at Christian Family Solutions brought her closer to her loved ones, including her Savior. A promise kept.
