Amanda Forshey

Treatment Focus:

My focus area is working with children who have needs in emotional regulation, trauma recovery, mood disorders, and social skills.

Bio:

I am a graduate-level intern currently pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Concordia University of Chicago. I earned my Bachelor's degree in English Literature in 2021 and my Master's in Secondary Education in 2022, both from Lake Forest College. I worked as a special education teacher for two years at schools in Lake County, IL before transferring into my current program. I have traditionally worked with children who have learning disabilities, anxiety and depression, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and ODD.

I believe that the counseling process should be built on a foundation of mutual trust and respect. This is done through helping the client identify positive attributes in both themselves and their environment, inspiring them to make a change. I also believe that finding commonalities between the client and therapist helps to build rapport and a strong relationship. I am currently receiving training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), crisis work, and trauma-informed care. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, staying active, spending time with friends, and baking.
