Our day-to-day thinking has an impact on our emotions and feelings, and our emotions and feelings have a major impact on our behaviors. In this regard, our thought patterns play a significant role in our emotional and physical health. Participants in this workshop will take away 8 concrete skills to help them work on a more peaceful and mindful way to approach all three facets of living connected.

Resilience: Bend, Don’t Break

Each one of us will have difficulties in life—some seemingly more than others—but some individuals have a greater propensity to recover or “bounce back.” In this workshop, participants will learn more about the science of resilience, the traits of those who tend to persevere, identify their resilience strengths and weaknesses, and make an improvement plan to work on the 9 traits and bolster their ability to weather the storms of life while leaning on the promises of their faithful God.

Stop the Drama! Steps to Manage Stress and Anxiety

Our teens are bombarded with stressful situations—grades, sports, college choices, relationships, the list goes on. This presentation will review various strategies and techniques to help them manage stress and anxiety. Specific topics will include assertiveness, time management, self-care, and relaxation exercises. Opportunities to practice these techniques and receive feedback will be provided. The presentation will consist of a lecture format, including a PowerPoint slide show. In addition, the seminar may include small group discussions and opportunities for question and answer.

Stressed Out but Standing Strong
Length: 30 or 60 minutes
Are you feeling overwhelmed with life and looking for some relief? Would you like to know how to prevent stress overload? This presentation clarifies the issue of stress by looking at the definition of stress, good vs. bad stress, the signs of stress, and the causes of stress. We will discuss solutions for stress by identifying coping skills and stress prevention techniques, as well as considering God’s promises to help during stressful times.
Notes: In addition to being a 60-minute in-person presentation, this presentation can also be shortened to 30 minutes and delivered via video-conferencing, which would be perfectly suited to faculty meetings, circuit pastor gatherings, conferences, or other events. The presentation is practical and allows for questions and discussion. There is also a version of this presentation designed for high school and college students.

Get Ready, Get Set, Get GOING! Goal-Setting in a Hectic Universe

Intended Audience: Young adults/adults
Are you aware that the way in which we set goals can actually inhibit us from reaching them? This presentation will bust open the doors of goal-setting by unveiling various “myths” associated with setting goals. Specific topics addressed include the benefits of goal-setting, areas of life in which goal-setting can be applied, a helpful and easy-to-implement model for goal-setting, and various guideposts to follow when defining goals. Additionally, this presentation will provide methods to increase motivation to achieve goals as well as how to create a personal and social accountability system in order to gain support in reaching goals. Finally, this presentation will conclude with how our faith affects how we structure priorities and goals.
