This presentation will cover aspects of these pressures, as well as negative behaviors/habits that can result from solely using these expectations to define female self-image. Other specific topics addressed will include basic needs that females seek out and healthy ways to get these needs met. Finally, this presentation will touch on Christ’s role for women as his children, and how females can set their personal identity in Christ.

Guilt: a feeling of inadequacy or wrongdoing brought on by breaking my individual or an objective moral code. Shame: a feeling of inadequacy or wrongdoing brought on by breaking a subjective moral code of others. While guilt and shame are a part of life, there are therapeutic ways to deal with them that not only follow God’s commands but also provide us a structure in which to practice mercy and grace for ourselves and with others. In this workshop, we will identify the roles guilt and shame play, learn tools to answer them honestly, and practice reducing judgment and increasing peace.

Self-Esteem vs. Christ-Esteem

Cost: MAP: $250/Non-MAP: $350 (plus expenses)

The world loves to discuss the importance of self-esteem and its ability to improve mental wellness. True—how we see ourselves will impact how we proceed through life, but it is not the sole answer to a life well-lived. Being smart enough or good enough or well liked is all relative and fleeting. Because we are redeemed children of the King, we can untwist that thinking and look at ways to build ourselves up in ways that are truthful and useful to our purpose for our time of grace. In this workshop, we will focus on untwisting some of the negative thought patterns, or “distortions,” that reduce our ability to see ourselves and others in the light of grace.
