CTSS Behavior Development Program

CTSS in-home services are intended to restore the child to a level of functioning that they either had or would have achieved if normal development had not been impaired by a mental health disorder. In-home visits are offered Monday-Friday up to three times per week for one hour.

This program is a qualifying CTSS service.

A lack in skills in the areas of emotional, social, and behavior development can lead children to become emotionally or physically dysregulated. The behavior skills in-home program helps children develop skills to maintain control and manage stress, leading to greater success at home, in school, and in the community.

CTSS Skills and Support Overview

  • Mental Health Practitioners meet with families in their own home, community-based placement, or foster care setup up to three times each week.
  • The components of the behavior skills in-home program include child skills and parent skills.
  • In-home visits are offered Monday-Friday up to three times per week for one hour.

Child Skills

Each 1-hour session focuses on helping the child learn specific skills to alleviate or minimize symptoms of their mental health diagnosis. Social-emotional skills development is incorporated throughout each session.

 

Emotions

  • Coping with strong emotions: Developing calming skills and learning to manage anxiety and frustration
  • Coping in social situations: Handling uncomfortable social situations, resisting revenge, and handling negative peer interaction

Social

  • Problem-solving: Getting along with peers, resisting peer pressure, dealing with bullying, and seeking the proper authorities for help

Communication and Empathy

  • Communication: Learning to listen, use assertive communication, and disagree respectfully
  • Empathy: Learning to show compassion and accept differences

Parent Coaching Skills

Parents will receive social support and learn skills to help promote healthy behavior, social development, and emotional development.

  • Stress management: Parental stress management, developing positive parent/child interaction
  • Supporting coping skills: Positive reinforcement techniques, reinforcing child behavior, supporting coping/calming skills

Social

  • Enhancing family well-being: Problem-solving, bonding, developing positive activities
  • Child social skills: Making and keeping friends, teaching child skills, promoting positive peer influence

Communication and Empathy

  • Managing explosive behavior: Avoiding power struggles and being patient
  • Rule-following and compliance: Behavior management, setting rules and expectations

Each member of the team has a background in treating children and adolescents with challenging emotional and behavioral issues and brings unique experience to the group setting. Our team consists of Mental Health Technicians, Mental Health Professionals, Experiential Therapists, and Licensed Professional Counselors, under the clinical direction of a Licensed Psychologist.
