The Prognosis on Porn: Working with adolescents who struggle with pornography use
Presented by:
Length:
60 minutes
Cost:
MAP: $200/Non-MAP: $300 (plus expenses)

The pornography industry in the United States grossed approximately $7 billion in 2006 (Edelman, 2009).  Pornography continues to attract many consumers, now including children and adolescents more than ever. Economic indicators show that online pornography is the wave of the future due to its accessibility, anonymity, and affordability (Cooper, Delmonico, & Burg, 2000). This widespread accessibility has ultimately led to pornography being viewed by children at younger and younger ages, with some studies showing that the average first exposure to pornography happens as young as 8 years old. This presentation will outline the current research surrounding adolescents and pornography use, abuse, and addiction. It will highlight the prevalence of pornography and effective interventions in working with children and teens that struggle with this issue as well as the conceptualization of this issue from a Christ-centered perspective.
