Let’s Talk About Self-Harm: Myths, reality, and what to do
Presented by:
Elizabeth Robinson, MA, LPC, DCC
Length:
30 or 60 minutes

This brief presentation addresses common myths and misconceptions about self-harm, including clarifying the differences between self-harm and suicide. It examines the signs of self-harm and provides practical advice on how to help a student who is engaging in self-harm, for you individually as well as an organization. Also included are resources for you to use yourself or to share with your students and families. This is meant to be an interactive presentation with time for questions and discussion. Self-harm is common among our young people today. Many of you probably have experience working with children or teens who are engaging in self-harm. Let’s talk about what has worked for you and what hasn’t. My goal is that you leave with your questions answered and with concrete, useful information you can use.

Notes: In addition to being a 60-minute in-person presentation, this presentation can also be shortened to 30 minutes and delivered via video-conferencing, which would be perfectly suited to faculty meetings, circuit pastor gatherings, conferences, or other events.
